Trane Named UK Employer of the Year

UK students crowded into the Student Center Ballroom as they sought out, and applied for, internships and career opportunities with representatives from sixty-five companies at the Engineering, High Tech and Architecture Day of the Career and Internship Expo on Tuesday, February 24.

Expo Group ShotAccording to Megan Boone, assistant director of the James W. Stuckert Career Center, liaison to College of Engineering, “over 600 students attended, the vast majority of which were engineering students.”

“With the current economy, it is very important that students are polished and prepared to market their skills to employers,” said Boone. “Networking at a career fair is an excellent way to get a lead on co-ops, internships and full-time opportunities.”

The fair was not just for seniors or graduates either as companies were anxious to talk to all majors and levels of students and alumni regarding internships and co-ops. UK Career Center staff recommend all students take advantage of opportunities like this as many of the attending companies hold on-site interviews following the Expo.

“Despite the current economic conditions, it is encouraging to see such a high level of interest in our students and alumni,” said College of Engineering dean Thomas Lester. “There is still a high demand for talented engineering and computer science professionals in the Commonwealth and beyond as demonstrated by the turnout of so many companies who recognize the quality and talent of our graduates.”

Trane was recognized as the University of Kentucky's Employer of the Year at the Intern & Employer Awards Ceremony on February 15th. Boone says, “Trane has shown a commitment to hiring students and graduates of the College of Engineering as well as going above and beyond to volunteer their time for Career Center workshops, Resumanias and Mock Interview Marathons.” Congratulations, Trane!
